Wants you To KNOW

Voluntown, Connecticut, is a small but historically rich town nestled in the southeastern corner of the state, bordering Rhode Island. It was established in 1721 and received its distinctive name from the "volunteers"—soldiers who fought in King Philip’s War and were granted land here as a reward for their service. What makes Voluntown truly unique is that it is the only Voluntown in the entire world. Almost 70% of its 39 square miles is state forest, including the expansive Pachaug State Forest—the largest in Connecticut—offering residents and visitors alike endless opportunities for hiking, fishing, camping, and horseback riding. Despite its tranquil setting, Voluntown has always maintained a strong sense of community spirit and self-reliance. Its combination of rich colonial history, unspoiled natural beauty, and small-town authenticity makes Voluntown a rare gem in New England—where the past and present blend seamlessly in a landscape that feels both timeless and alive.
