Norwich, also known as “The Rose of New England,” is a city within New London County, Connecticut. The city is surrounded by the harbor where the Yantic, Quinebaug, and Shetucket rivers flow through. Norwich was founded in 1659 with a tract of land nine miles square purchased from the local Native American Mohegan Tribe. Norwich was one of the largest cities in the Colonies during the 18th century and a center of wealth and commerce. Norwich has numerous attractions including Uncas Leap Heritage Park, Slater Memorial Museum, Norwich Memorial Rose Garden, marina and harbor. Notable people from Norwich include the infamous Gen. Benedict Arnold, Governor Samuel Huntington, signer of the Declaration of Independence & First President of the U.S. under the Articles of Confederation, Artist Ellis Ruley and bestselling Author Wally Lamb.
